Dishwasher not heating up or cleaning properly? Try this free and easy test and fix
Dishwasher not heating up or cleaning properly? Try this free and easy test and fix
If your dishwasher has not been cleaning very well; tablet still left in the machine at the end of the wash and no steam when you open the door there may be a fault with the heating system. The problem may be in the transfer hose or pressure chamber, luckily there is an easy way to test:
How to test:
Start a new auto wash (one that heats the water not a rinse).
When it's washing, open the door and add a couple of jugs of water to bring the water level up.
Close the door and let it continue washing. (it will pump out excess water).
Check a few times during the wash, before it empties for the rinses, to see if it's heating.
If adding the water makes the machine heat up and complete the wash, the problem is a restriction in the pressure chamber or transfer hose. The transfer hose runs between the wash pump motor and the pressure chamber.
How to clean the pressure chamber and hose
Unplug the appliance and isolate the water. If the machine will move out far enough the water hoses can be left in place.
You may need to remove the door depending on how much assess you have to the front panel below the door
Remove the the left side panel
Remove the panel below the door
Pull out the hose attached to the front of the pressure chamber off at both ends.
If the hose is blocked clean it out with a bottle brush and refit
If the whole pressure chamber is blocked
Take the large plastic tank (expansion tank) on the left side off.
Water will come out of it so have towels there to soak it up.
Remove the smaller red pressure chamber
Take the chamber fully apart (it all clips together) and clean it out thoroughly with hot water
Clean it out and refit it.
Reassemble the machine and try it again, use an auto/hot wash not just a rinse.
If it's all clean and clear, it should now work properly.

Checking For Bump Steer On An MGB Or Any Car

Checking For Bump Steer On An MGB Or Any Car I was given some great advice by Alastair Cox at AJ Barnard Engineering ajbengineering.com/ for an easy way to check for bump steer on a car. You will need a set of wheel alignment gauges and be able to remove the springs from the car whilst keeping the suspension intact to check for bump steer at home. The whole process is fairly simple, the front s...

How to Safely Remove the Decorative Door Trims on a BMW E60 & E61 A quick video showing how to remove the star washers from the decorative door trims without damaging them. Thank you for making these videos. My front crossmember has been rebuilt and currently out of the vehicle, is it possible to install the front springs or will i have to bolt the crossmember back in?

    • @davidrussellwilks
      @davidrussellwilks 3 дні тому

      Thanks for your message, you will have a slight difficulty getting to the long studs that hold the crossmember in place with the springs installed. Personally I like to fit the crossmember with nothing attached to it and then make sure it's perfectly square to the vehicle. The crossmember can be fitted when assembled, you will need to put the studs where the springs go in first though, ideally you'll need two people for the job, it's a heavy and rather unwieldly assembly when built up.

  • @davea2665
    @davea2665 10 днів тому

    Is it ok to heat up the brake drum in the oven if you don't have a torch? Someone said to set the oven at about 250F and the bearing should fall out of the drum on its own.

    • @davidrussellwilks
      @davidrussellwilks 10 днів тому

      I don't think there would be any harm in trying this method, but it's not one I have used myself. Ideally you want the drum to be hotter than the bearing so it expands. Hopefully the drum may expand more than the bearing does with the oven method.

    How much pedal travel do you have, and how firm is the pedal? I'm struggling to get a decent pedal travel on my B

    • @davidrussellwilks
      @davidrussellwilks 2 місяці тому

      A few things that may cause a soft pedal: Water in the brake fluid or old brake fluid Rear wheel cylinders not adjusted correctly Poor rubber hoses front and rear (these can break down internally and should be changed every 10 years) A failing master cylinder A failing brake servo if fitted The pedal should be fairly firm, I'd start at the top of the list and work down, the first three items are the cheapest to fix.

    Thanks for this David. It's helped me diagnose issues with my steering on my B. I was at the point of replacing the entire rack. My current one had no oil in and no shims. I've owned it for 6 months now and had to fix bodges and lots of little simple fixes that previous owners have ignored. Worst of which was a loose ignition wire which caused a short and burnt out the entire ignition circuit. Re-wiring an MGB in the winter with no garage is not fun. But between you, John Twist (Although a lot of his video's have dodgy quality now) and Alex's Garage it's back to where it should be just in time for the summer.

      With these cars careless previous owners do have a lot to answer for! A friend had a 1960's Morris that a previous owner decided to re-wire. Rather than using the correct colours they simply went for all blue, trying to diagnose problems was a real pain. Often replacing the entire loom is the best and easiest option in the long run.

      The discs on these cars are fairly cheap, however not as easy to replace as some newer cars. If there is any heavy scoring or the brakes are too thin; below 7.6mm then they need to be replaced. If they are over 15 years old I would seriously consider changing them anyway.

    After all only three remarks (maybe not needed, I did not check further down in the list): 1) torque values on the headnuts were raised by BL by TSB from 45-50lbf max, to 50-55lbf. Meaning torqueing up to 55lbf max, of slightly below 75 Nm is permitted with their blessing 2) on later engines underneath the two middle rocker shaft pedestals two special shims were placed and for later engines when refurbished in any way, BL advised the same mod 3) assuring the thermostat housing studs are firmly lodged in their threaded holes assures complete sealing, without any sealant being necessary. Furthermore, NOT using the re-usable Klingersill gasket, but a cork one obviates the sealant option completely as well: cork swells up and torqueing slightly up after a single heating cycle is enough to last Thanx once more and I will follow in your footsteps in a manner of speaking for sure 🙂
